syzbot found that a thread can stall for minutes inside read_mem() or write_mem() after that thread was killed by SIGKILL [1]. Reading from iomem areas of /dev/mem can be slow, depending on the hardware. While reading 2GB at one read() is legal, delaying termination of killed thread for minutes is bad. Thus, allow reading/writing /dev/mem and /dev/kmem to be preemptible and killable. Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first.
In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
