selftests/bpf: improve error messages in veristat

Return error if preset parsing fails. Avoid proceeding with veristat run
if preset does not parse.
Before:

Improve error messages:
 * If preset struct member can't be found.
 * Array index out of bounds

Extract rtrim function.
