commit c35559f94e ("x86/shstk: Introduce map_shadow_stack syscall")
recently added support for map_shadow_stack() but it is limited to x86
only for now. There is a possibility that other architectures (namely,
arm64 and RISC-V), that are implementing equivalent support for shadow
stacks, might need to add support for it.
Independent of that, reserving arch-specific syscall numbers in the
syscall tables of all architectures is good practice and would help
avoid future conflicts. map_shadow_stack() is marked as a conditional
syscall in sys_ni.c. Adding it to the syscall tables of other
architectures is harmless and would return ENOSYS when exercised.
Note, map_shadow_stack() was assigned #453 during the merge process
since #452 was taken by fchmodat2().
For Powerpc, map it to sys_ni_syscall() as is the norm for Powerpc
syscall tables.
For Alpha, map_shadow_stack() takes up #563 as Alpha still diverges from
the common syscall numbering system in the other architectures.

syscall definition for lookup_dcookie. However, syscall tables still

Finish off the 'simple' futex2 syscall group by adding
sys_futex_requeue(). Unlike sys_futex_{wait,wake}() its arguments are
too numerous to fit into a regular syscall. As such, use struct
futex_waitv to pass the 'source' and 'destination' futexes to the
syscall.
This syscall implements what was previously known as FUTEX_CMP_REQUEUE
and uses {val, uaddr, flags} for source and {uaddr, flags} for
destination.
This design explicitly allows requeueing between different types of
futex by having a different flags word per uaddr.

Change HUGEPAGE_SIZE to become 4 MB on 32-bit kernels, which leads
that kernel code and kernel data will start on 4 MB boundaries.
Although a 32-bit kernel does not support huge pages, most
machines have support for Block-TLBs (BTLB) which allow to
configure the system to use large pages (block TLBs) to minimize
the TLB contention. This is done through calls to PDC and the
32-bit kernel can then call BTLB PDC functions to tell
the machine to optimize the TLBs.

"This adds the fchmodat2() system call. It is a revised version of the
fchmodat() system call, adding a missing flag argument. Support for
both AT_SYMLINK_NOFOLLOW and AT_EMPTY_PATH are included.
Adding this system call revision has been a longstanding request but
so far has always fallen through the cracks. While the kernel
implementation of fchmodat() does not have a flag argument the libc
provided POSIX-compliant fchmodat(3) version does. Both glibc and musl
have to implement a workaround in order to support AT_SYMLINK_NOFOLLOW
(see [1] and [2]).
The workaround is brittle because it relies not just on O_PATH and
O_NOFOLLOW semantics and procfs magic links but also on our rather
inconsistent symlink semantics.
This gives userspace a proper fchmodat2() system call that libcs can
use to properly implement fchmodat(3) and allows them to get rid of
their hacks. In this case it will immediately benefit them as the
current workaround is already defunct because of aformentioned
inconsistencies.
In addition to AT_SYMLINK_NOFOLLOW, give userspace the ability to use
AT_EMPTY_PATH with fchmodat2(). This is already possible with
fchownat() so there's no reason to not also support it for
fchmodat2().
The implementation is simple and comes with selftests. Implementation
of the system call and wiring up the system call are done as separate
patches even though they could arguably be one patch. But in case
there are merge conflicts from other system call additions it can be
beneficial to have separate patches"

subsystem, which gives us quite some advantages, e.g.
- existing triggers for heartbeat and disk/lan activity can be used
- users can configre the LEDs at will to any existing trigger via

- less overhead since we don't need to run own timers
- fully integrated in Linux and as such cleaner code.
Note that the driver now depends on CONFIG_LEDS_CLASS which has to
be built-in and not as module.

parisc uses a top-down layout by default that exactly fits the generic
functions, so get rid of arch specific code and use the generic version
by selecting ARCH_WANT_DEFAULT_TOPDOWN_MMAP_LAYOUT.
Note that on parisc the stack always grows up and a "unlimited stack"
simply means that the value as defined in CONFIG_STACK_MAX_DEFAULT_SIZE_MB
should be used. So RLIM_INFINITY is not an indicator to use the legacy
memory layout.

The lscpu command is broken since commit cab56b51ec ("parisc: Fix
device names in /proc/iomem") added the PA pathname to all PA
devices, includig the CPUs.
lscpu parses /proc/cpuinfo and now believes it found different CPU
types since every CPU is listed with an unique identifier (PA
pathname).
Fix this problem by simply dropping the PA pathname when listing the
CPUs in /proc/cpuinfo. There is no need to show the pathname in this
procfs file.

For the TLB_PTLOCK checks we used an optimization to store the spc
register into the spinlock to unlock it. This optimization works as
long as the lightweight spinlock checks (CONFIG_LIGHTWEIGHT_SPINLOCK_CHECK)
aren't enabled, because they really check if the lock word is zero or
__ARCH_SPIN_LOCK_UNLOCKED_VAL and abort with a kernel crash
("Spinlock was trashed") otherwise.
Drop that optimization to make it possible to activate both checks
at the same time.

The lightweight spinlock checks verify that a spinlock has either value
0 (spinlock locked) and that not any other bits than in
__ARCH_SPIN_LOCK_UNLOCKED_VAL is set.
This breaks the current LWS code, which writes the address of the lock
into the lock word to unlock it, which was an optimization to save one
assembler instruction.
Fix it by making spinlock_types.h accessible for asm code, change the
LWS spinlock-unlocking code to write __ARCH_SPIN_LOCK_UNLOCKED_VAL into
the lock word, and add some missing lightweight spinlock checks to the
LWS path. Finally, make the spinlock checks dependend on DEBUG_KERNEL.

The changes from commit 32832a407a ("io_uring: Fix io_uring mmap() by
using architecture-provided get_unmapped_area()") to the parisc
implementation of get_unmapped_area() broke glibc's locale-gen
executable when running on parisc.
This patch reverts those architecture-specific changes, and instead
adjusts in io_uring_mmu_get_unmapped_area() the pgoff offset which is
then given to parisc's get_unmapped_area() function. This is much
cleaner than the previous approach, and we still will get a coherent
addresss.
This patch has no effect on other architectures (SHM_COLOUR is only
defined on parisc), and the liburing testcase stil passes on parisc.

The io_uring testcase is broken on IA-64 since commit d808459b2e
("io_uring: Adjust mapping wrt architecture aliasing requirements").
The reason is, that this commit introduced an own architecture
independend get_unmapped_area() search algorithm which finds on IA-64 a
memory region which is outside of the regular memory region used for
shared userspace mappings and which can't be used on that platform
due to aliasing.
To avoid similar problems on IA-64 and other platforms in the future,
it's better to switch back to the architecture-provided
get_unmapped_area() function and adjust the needed input parameters
before the call. Beside fixing the issue, the function now becomes
easier to understand and maintain.
This patch has been successfully tested with the io_uring testcase on
physical x86-64, ppc64le, IA-64 and PA-RISC machines. On PA-RISC the LTP
mmmap testcases did not report any regressions.

- Parallel CPU bringup
The reason why people are interested in parallel bringup is to shorten
the (kexec) reboot time of cloud servers to reduce the downtime of the
VM tenants.
The current fully serialized bringup does the following per AP:
1) Prepare callbacks (allocate, intialize, create threads)
2) Kick the AP alive (e.g. INIT/SIPI on x86)
3) Wait for the AP to report alive state
4) Let the AP continue through the atomic bringup
5) Let the AP run the threaded bringup to full online state
There are two significant delays:
#3 The time for an AP to report alive state in start_secondary() on
x86 has been measured in the range between 350us and 3.5ms
depending on vendor and CPU type, BIOS microcode size etc.
#4 The atomic bringup does the microcode update. This has been
measured to take up to ~8ms on the primary threads depending on
the microcode patch size to apply.
On a two socket SKL server with 56 cores (112 threads) the boot CPU
spends on current mainline about 800ms busy waiting for the APs to come
up and apply microcode. That's more than 80% of the actual onlining
procedure.
This can be reduced significantly by splitting the bringup mechanism
into two parts:
1) Run the prepare callbacks and kick the AP alive for each AP which
needs to be brought up.
The APs wake up, do their firmware initialization and run the low
level kernel startup code including microcode loading in parallel
up to the first synchronization point. (#1 and #2 above)
2) Run the rest of the bringup code strictly serialized per CPU
(#3 - #5 above) as it's done today.
Parallelizing that stage of the CPU bringup might be possible in
theory, but it's questionable whether required surgery would be
justified for a pretty small gain.
If the system is large enough the first AP is already waiting at the
first synchronization point when the boot CPU finished the wake-up of
the last AP. That reduces the AP bringup time on that SKL from ~800ms
to ~80ms, i.e. by a factor ~10x.
The actual gain varies wildly depending on the system, CPU, microcode
patch size and other factors. There are some opportunities to reduce
the overhead further, but that needs some deep surgery in the x86 CPU
bringup code.
For now this is only enabled on x86, but the core functionality
obviously works for all SMP capable architectures.
- Enhancements for SMP function call tracing so it is possible to locate
the scheduling and the actual execution points. That allows to measure
IPI delivery time precisely.

- Parallel CPU bringup
The reason why people are interested in parallel bringup is to
shorten the (kexec) reboot time of cloud servers to reduce the
downtime of the VM tenants.
The current fully serialized bringup does the following per AP:
1) Prepare callbacks (allocate, intialize, create threads)
2) Kick the AP alive (e.g. INIT/SIPI on x86)
3) Wait for the AP to report alive state
4) Let the AP continue through the atomic bringup
5) Let the AP run the threaded bringup to full online state
There are two significant delays:
#3 The time for an AP to report alive state in start_secondary()
on x86 has been measured in the range between 350us and 3.5ms
depending on vendor and CPU type, BIOS microcode size etc.
#4 The atomic bringup does the microcode update. This has been
measured to take up to ~8ms on the primary threads depending
on the microcode patch size to apply.
On a two socket SKL server with 56 cores (112 threads) the boot CPU
spends on current mainline about 800ms busy waiting for the APs to
come up and apply microcode. That's more than 80% of the actual
onlining procedure.
This can be reduced significantly by splitting the bringup
mechanism into two parts:
1) Run the prepare callbacks and kick the AP alive for each AP
which needs to be brought up.
The APs wake up, do their firmware initialization and run the
low level kernel startup code including microcode loading in
parallel up to the first synchronization point. (#1 and #2
above)
2) Run the rest of the bringup code strictly serialized per CPU
(#3 - #5 above) as it's done today.
Parallelizing that stage of the CPU bringup might be possible
in theory, but it's questionable whether required surgery
would be justified for a pretty small gain.
If the system is large enough the first AP is already waiting at
the first synchronization point when the boot CPU finished the
wake-up of the last AP. That reduces the AP bringup time on that
SKL from ~800ms to ~80ms, i.e. by a factor ~10x.
The actual gain varies wildly depending on the system, CPU,
microcode patch size and other factors. There are some
opportunities to reduce the overhead further, but that needs some
deep surgery in the x86 CPU bringup code.
For now this is only enabled on x86, but the core functionality
obviously works for all SMP capable architectures.

Since at least kernel 6.1, flush_dcache_page() is called with IRQs
disabled, e.g. from aio_complete().
But the current implementation for flush_dcache_page() on parisc
unintentionally re-enables IRQs, which may lead to deadlocks.
Fix it by using xa_lock_irqsave() and xa_unlock_irqrestore()
for the flush_dcache_mmap_*lock() macros instead.

Add a lightweight spinlock check which uses only two instructions
per spinlock call. It detects if a spinlock has been trashed by
some memory corruption and then halts the kernel. It will not detect
uninitialized spinlocks, for which CONFIG_DEBUG_SPINLOCK needs to
be enabled.
This lightweight spinlock check shouldn't influence runtime, so it's
safe to enable it by default.
The __ARCH_SPIN_LOCK_UNLOCKED_VAL constant has been choosen small enough
to be able to be loaded by one LDI assembler statement.

When patching the kernel code some alternatives depend on SMP vs. !SMP.
Use the value of num_present_cpus() instead of num_online_cpus() to
decide, otherwise we may run into issues if and additional CPU is
enabled after having loaded a module while only one CPU was enabled.

Fix the argument pointer (ap) to point to real-mode memory
instead of virtual memory.
It's interesting that this issue hasn't shown up earlier, as this could
have happened with any 64-bit PDC ROM code.
I just noticed it because I suddenly faced a HPMC while trying to execute
the 64-bit STI ROM code of an Visualize-FXe graphics card for the STI
text console.

This change simplifies the randomization of file mapping regions. It
reworks the code to remove duplication. The flow is now similar to
that for mips. Finally, we consistently use the do_color_align variable
to determine when color alignment is needed.

Matthew Wilcox noticed, that if ARCH_HAS_FLUSH_ON_KUNMAP is defined
(which is the case for PA-RISC), __kunmap_local() calls
kunmap_flush_on_unmap(), which may call the parisc flush functions with
a non-page-aligned address and thus the page might not be fully flushed.
This patch ensures that flush_kernel_dcache_page_asm() and
flush_kernel_dcache_page_asm() will always operate on page-aligned
addresses.

The panic notifiers' callbacks execute in an atomic context, with
interrupts/preemption disabled, and all CPUs not running the panic
function are off, so it's very dangerous to wait on a regular
spinlock, there's a risk of deadlock.
Refactor the panic notifier of parisc/power driver to make use
of spin_trylock - for that, we've added a second version of the
soft-power function. Also, some comments were reorganized and
trailing white spaces, useless header inclusion and blank lines
were removed.

split it into UNWIND_HINT_END_OF_STACK and UNWIND_HINT_UNDEFINED to resolve it.
- Fix noinstr violations in the KCSAN code and the lkdtm/stackleak code.
- Generate ORC data for __pfx code
- Add more __noreturn annotations to various kernel startup/shutdown/panic functions.
- Misc improvements & fixes.
