582e9a24fc tty: serial: imx: Add fast path when rs485 delays are 0
Right now, even when `delay_rts_before_send` and `delay_rts_after_send`
are 0, the hrtimer is triggered (with timeout 0) which can introduce a
few 100us of additional overhead on slower i.MX platforms.

Implement a fast path when the delays are 0, where the RTS signal is
toggled immediately instead of going through an hrtimer.  This fast path
behaves identical to the code before delay support was implemented.

7a637784d5 serial: imx: reduce RX interrupt frequency
Triggering RX interrupt for every byte defeats the purpose of aging
timer and leads to interrupt storm at high baud rates. The interrupt
storm can starve line discipline worker and prevent tty throttling,
rendering hardware/software flow control useless.

Increase receiver trigger level to 8 to increase the minimum period
between RX interrupts to 8 characters time. The tradeoff is increased
latency.

Aging timer resets with every received character. Worst case scenario
happens when RX data intercharacter delay is slightly less than the
aging timer timeout (8 characters time). The upper bound of the time
a character can wait in RxFIFO before interrupt is raised is:
  (RXTL - 1) * (8 character time timeout + received 1 character time)

Usually the data is received in frames, with low intercharacter delay.
In such case the latency increase is 8 characters time at the end of
the frame with probability (RXTL - 1) / RXTL.

028e083832 tty: serial: imx: disable UCR4_OREN in .stop_rx() instead of .shutdown()
The UCR4_OREN should be disabled before disabling the uart receiver in
.stop_rx() instead of in the .shutdown().

Otherwise, if we have the overrun error during the receiver disable
process, the overrun interrupt will keep trigging until we disable the
OREN interrupt in the .shutdown(), because the ORE status can only be
cleared when read the rx FIFO or reset the controller.  Although the
called time between the receiver disable and OREN disable in .shutdown()
is very short, there is still the risk of endless interrupt during this
short period of time. So here change to disable OREN before the receiver
been disabled in .stop_rx().

c67643b46c tty: serial: imx: clear the RTSD status before enable the RTSD irq
Clear RTSD status before enabling the irq event for RTSD in
imx_uart_enable_wakeup function.
Since RTSD can be set as the wakeup source, this can avoid any risk of
false triggering of a wake-up interrupts.

9768a37cec serial: imx: disable console clocks on unregister
During console setup imx_uart_console_setup() enables clocks, but they
are never disabled when the console is unregistered, this leads to
clk_prepare_enable() being called multiple times without a matching
clk_disable_unprepare() in case of console unregister.

Ensure that clock enable/disable are balanced adding
clk_disable_unprepare() in the console exit callback.

A similar issue could be triggered by unbinding/binding the serial
console device [*].

db0a196bd8 serial: imx: Add DMA buffer configuration via DT
In order to optimize serial communication (performance/throughput VS
latency), we may need to tweak DMA period number and size. This adds
DT properties to configure those values before initialising DMA.
The defaults will stay the same as before.

9baedb7bae serial: imx: drop workaround for forced irq threading
Force-threaded interrupt handlers used to run with interrupts enabled,
something which could lead to deadlocks in case a threaded handler
shared a lock with code running in hard interrupt context (e.g. timer
callbacks) and did not explicitly disable interrupts.

This was specifically the case for serial drivers that take the port
lock in their console write path as printk can be called from hard
interrupt context also with forced threading ("threadirqs").

Since commit 81e2073c17 ("genirq: Disable interrupts for force
threaded handlers") interrupt handlers always run with interrupts
disabled on non-RT so that drivers no longer need to do handle this.

Drop the now obsolete workaround added by commit 33f16855dc ("tty:
serial: imx: fix potential deadlock").

aef1b6a279 tty/serial/imx: Enable TXEN bit in imx_poll_init().
As described in Documentation, poll_init() is called by kgdb to initialize
hardware which supports both poll_put_char() and poll_get_char().

It's necessary to enable TXEN bit, otherwise, it will cause hardware fault
and kernel panic when calling imx_poll_put_char().

Generally, if use /dev/ttymxc0 as kgdb console as well as system
console, ttymxc0 is initialized early by system console which does enable
TXEN bit.But when use /dev/ttymxc1 as kgbd console, ttymxc1 is only
initialized by imx_poll_init() cannot enable the TXEN bit, which will
cause kernel panic.

33f16855dc tty: serial: imx: fix potential deadlock
Enabling the lock dependency validator has revealed
that the way spinlocks are used in the IMX serial
port could result in a deadlock.

Specifically, imx_uart_int() acquires a spinlock
without disabling the interrupts, meaning that another
interrupt could come along and try to acquire the same
spinlock, potentially causing the two to wait for each
other indefinitely.

Use spin_lock_irqsave() instead to disable interrupts
upon acquisition of the spinlock.

edd64f3079 tty: serial: imx: disable TXDC IRQ in imx_uart_shutdown() to avoid IRQ storm
The IPG clock is disabled at the end of imx_uart_shutdown(); we really
don't want to run any IRQ handlers after this point.

At least on i.MX8MN, the UART will happily continue to generate interrupts
even with its clocks disabled, but in this state, all register writes are
ignored (which will cause the shadow registers to differ from the actual
register values, resulting in all kinds of weirdness).

In a transfer without DMA, this could lead to the following sequence of
events:

- The UART finishes its transmission while imx_uart_shutdown() is run,
  triggering the TXDC interrupt (we can trigger this fairly reliably by
  writing a single byte to the TTY and closing it right away)
- imx_uart_shutdown() finishes, disabling the UART clocks
- imx_uart_int() -> imx_uart_transmit_buffer() -> imx_uart_stop_tx()

imx_uart_stop_tx() should now clear UCR4_TCEN to disable the TXDC
interrupt, but this register write is ineffective. This results in an
interrupt storm.

To disable all interrupts in the same place, and to avoid setting UCR4
twice, clearing UCR4_OREN is moved below del_timer_sync() as well; this
should be harmless.

bd78ecd605 serial: imx: use hrtimers for rs485 delays
This patch imitates 6e0a5de213 ("serial: 8250: Use hrtimers for
rs485 delays") in replacing the previously used classic timers
with hrtimers. The old way provided a too coarse resolution on
systems with configs of less than 1000 HZ.

Use of hrtimers addresses this and can be easily extended to
support microsecond resolution in future when support
for this arrives upstream.

d1d996afbd tty: serial: imx: clear Ageing Timer Interrupt in handler
The AGTIM flag must be cleared explicitly, otherwise the IRQ handler
will be called in an endless loop.

Fortunately, this issue currently doesn't affect mainline kernels in
practice, as the the RX FIFO trigger level is set to 1 in UFCR. When
setting the trigger level to a higher number, the issue is trivially
reproducible by any RX without DMA that doesn't fill the FIFO up to the
configured level.

8f065acec7 serial: imx: Initialize lock for non-registered console
The commit a3cb39d258
("serial: core: Allow detach and attach serial device for console")
changed a bit logic behind lock initialization since for most of the console
driver it's supposed to have lock already initialized even if console is not
enabled. However, it's not the case for Freescale IMX console.

Initialize lock explicitly in the ->probe().

Note, there is still an open question should or shouldn't not this driver
register console properly.

c150c0f362 serial: Allow uart_get_rs485_mode() to return errno
We're about to amend uart_get_rs485_mode() to support a GPIO pin for
rs485 bus termination.  Retrieving the GPIO descriptor may fail, so
allow uart_get_rs485_mode() to return an errno and change all callers
to check for failure.

The GPIO descriptor is going to be stored in struct uart_port.  Pass
that struct to uart_get_rs485_mode() in lieu of a struct device and
struct serial_rs485, both of which are directly accessible from struct
uart_port.

A few drivers call uart_get_rs485_mode() before setting the struct
device pointer in struct uart_port.  Shuffle those calls around where
necessary.

5a08a4877a tty: imx serial: Implement support for reversing TX and RX polarity
The peripheral has support for inverting its input and/or output
signals.  This is useful if the hardware flips polarity of the
peripheral's signal, such as swapped +/- pins on an RS-422 transceiver,
or an inverting level shifter.  Add support for these control registers
via the device tree binding.

As part of this change, make the writes of the various registers more
uniform by moving the UCR3 block up near the other registers' blocks,
since the INVT bit must be set before enabling the peripheral.

There has oops as below happen on i.MX8MP EVK platform that has
6G bytes DDR memory.

when (xmit->tail < xmit->head) && (xmit->head == 0),
it setups one sg entry with sg->length is zero:
	sg_set_buf(sgl + 1, xmit->buf, xmit->head);

if xmit->buf is allocated from >4G address space, and SDMA only
support <4G address space, then dma_map_sg() will call swiotlb_map()
to do bounce buffer copying and mapping.

But swiotlb_map() don't allow sg entry's length is zero, otherwise
report BUG_ON().

So the patch is to correct the tx DMA scatter list.

The main irq handler function starts by first masking disabled
interrupts in the status register values to ensure to only handle
enabled interrupts. This is important as when the RX path in the
hardware is disabled reading the RX fifo results in an external abort.

This checking must be done under the port lock, otherwise the following
can happen:

The SUPPORT_SYSRQ ifdeffery is not nice as:
- May create misunderstanding about sizeof(struct uart_port) between

In order to remove SUPPORT_SYSRQ, has_sysrq variable has been added.
Initialise it in driver's probe and remove ifdeffery.

76c38d30fe serial: imx: adapt rx buffer and dma periods
Using only 4 DMA periods for UART RX is very few if we have a high
frequency of small transfers - like in our case using Bluetooth with
many small packets via UART - causing many dma transfers but in each
only filling a fraction of a single buffer. Such a case may lead to
the situation that DMA RX transfer is triggered but no free buffer is
available. When this happens dma channel ist stopped - with the patch
"dmaengine: imx-sdma: fix dma freezes" temporarily only - with the
possible consequences that:
with disabled hw flow control:
  If enough data is incoming on UART port the RX FIFO runs over and
  characters will be lost. What then happens depends on upper layer.

with enabled hw flow control:
  If enough data is incoming on UART port the RX FIFO reaches a level
  where CTS is deasserted and remote device sending the data stops.
  If it fails to stop timely the i.MX' RX FIFO may run over and data
  get lost. Otherwise it's internal TX buffer may getting filled to
  a point where it runs over and data is again lost. It depends on
  the remote device how this case is handled and if it is recoverable.

Obviously we want to avoid having no free buffers available. So we
decrease the size of the buffers and increase their number and the
total buffer size.

imx_set_termios(): avoid writing baud rate divider registers when the
values to be written are the same as current. Any writing seems to
restart transmission/receiving logic in the hardware, that leads to

something that doesn't touch transmission format/rate changes, such as

right.

Don't let receiver hardware automatically control RTS output if it

imx_uart_set_termios() called imx_uart_rts_active(), or
imx_uart_rts_inactive() before taking port->port.lock.

As a consequence, sport->port.mctrl that these functions modify
could have been changed without holding port->port.lock.

Moved locking of port->port.lock above the calls to fix the issue.

8178eeb3e8 serial: imx: remove log spamming error message
Each time the DMA engine signals a transaction error the driver prints
a message at error level. Getting transaction errors is pretty much
expected on baudrate mismatches and the correspoding error counters
are increased in this case properly. Remove the error message which
is possibly repeated at a very high rate which can lock up the whole
system.

0aa821d846 serial: imx: fix cached UCR2 read on software reset
To reset the UART the SRST needs be cleared (low active). According
to the documentation the bit will remain active for 4 module clocks
until it is cleared (set to 1).

Hence the real register need to be read in case the cached register
indicates that the SRST bit is zero.

This bug lead to wrong baudrate because the baud rate register got
restored before reset completed in imx_flush_buffer.

6d215f83e5 serial: imx: warn user when using unsupported configuration
When using half-duplex mode (which disables receiver during txing)
the RTS signal cannot be driven low during transmission when using
i.MX UART RTS/CTS control. This seems to be a limitation of the
i.MX UART IP: The RTS (CTS_B) signal is controlled by the receiver.
When the receiver is disabled, the signal stays in UART logic idle
state which is high...

If SER_RS485_RTS_ON_SEND is used, RTS needs to be high active during
transmission. Since this is the default state of the RTS (CTS_B)
signal when the receiver is off, half-duplex mode in this
configuration works fine.

However, a low-active RTS signal (flag SER_RS485_RTS_ON_SEND not set)
cannot be generated when the receiver is turned off.

Print an error if the user selects this unsupported configuration
(both SER_RS485_RTS_ON_SEND and SER_RS485_RX_DURING_TX unset) and
configure the closest working configuration (set the
SER_RS485_RX_DURING_TX flag).

9d1a50a2cc serial: imx: consistently use imx_uart_ as prefix for all functions
Having a fixed prefix helps at several places. It ensures that another
driver doesn't use the same function name which confuses the linker and
tools like ctags. It simplifies working with function tracing and
dynamic printk() support which can filter on function names. And last
but not least it helps the human source code reader to understand if a
given function belongs to a driver or a more general part of the kernel.

1866541492 serial: imx: Fix handling of TC irq in combination with DMA
When using RS485 half duplex the Transmitter Complete irq is needed to
determine the moment when the transmitter can be disabled. When using
DMA this irq must only be enabled when DMA has completed to transfer all
data. Otherwise the CPU might busily trigger this irq which is not
properly handled and so the also pending irq for the DMA transfer cannot
trigger.

isn't suspended. This is wrong as .stop_rx() should stop receiving

.stop_rx() here, too.

4444dcf1fe serial: imx: use u32 variables with matching names for registers
The serial/imx driver is full of inconsistently named and typed
variables that hold different register values.

Consistently use u32 as type (matching what readl and writel use) and
name the variables after the register whose value they are holding.
This makes it easier to notice when UCR2_RTSEN is written to UCR1.

The only difference introduced by this commit in the compiled driver is
that twice the second argument to warn_slowpath_null() changed because the
two WARN_ON in dma_rx_callback() pass __LINE__ to warn_slowpath_null().

Neither .dma_is_txing nor .dma_is_rxing can evaluate to true if
.dma_is_enabled evaluates to false:

The only function that sets .dma_is_txing to a non-zero value is
imx_dma_tx() which is only called if .dma_is_enabled is true. Same for
.dma_is_rxing and start_rx_dma(). And before .dma_is_enabled is set to 0
when imx_shutdown calls imx_disable_dma(), .dma_is_rxing and
.dma_is_txing are reset to zero before, too.

For this reason

	sport->dma_is_enabled && sport->dma_is_rxing

has the same value as

	sport->dma_is_rxing

which allows to simplify three if conditions.

The .dma_is_inited member is only set to a value != 0 when the port's
startup function calls imx_uart_dma_init(). On shutdown of the port
imx_uart_dma_exit is called which sets the value back to 0. So
.dma_is_inited is always 0 when imx_startup() is called (assuming
.startup() and .shutdown() are correctly balanced) and the check for
!sport->dma_is_inited can go away.

This allows to replace .dma_is_inited by a variable local to
imx_startup.

Handling an irq that isn't enabled can have some undesired side effects.
Some of these are mentioned in the newly introduced code comment. Some
of the irq sources already had their handling right, some don't. Handle
them all in the same consistent way.

The change for USR1_RRDY and USR1_AGTIM drops the check for
dma_is_enabled. This is correct as UCR1_RRDYEN and UCR2_ATEN are always
off if dma is enabled.

45ca673e81 tty: serial: imx: allow breaks to be received when using dma
This allows me to login after sending a break when service
serial-getty@ttymxc0.service is running

The "tty_insert_flip_char(port, 0, TTY_BREAK)" in clear_rx_errors
fixes this by allowing the higher layers to see a break.

Also, call uart_handle_break to handle possible
"secure attention key."

FYI: Martin said the ROM sdma firmware works with this patch,
but external sdma firmware still does not send breaks on a
i.mx6UL

09df0b3464 serial: imx: fix endless loop during suspend
Before we go into suspend mode, we enable the imx uart's interrupt for
the awake bit in the UART Status Register 1. If, for some reason, the
awake bit is already set before we enter suspend mode, we get an
interrupt immediately when we enable interrupts for awake. The uart's
clk_ipg is disabled at this point (unless there's an ongoing transfer).
We end up in the interrupt handler, which usually tries to clear the
awake bit. This doesn't work with the clock disabled. Therefore, we
keep getting interrupts forever, resulting in an endless loop.

Clear the awake bit before setting the awaken bit to signal that we want
an imx interrupt when the awake bit will be set. This ensures that we're
not woken up by events that happened before we started going into
suspend mode.

Change the clock handling so that suspend prepares and enables the clock
and suspend_noirq disables it. Revert these operations in resume_noirq and
resume.

With these preparations in place, we can now modify awake and awaken in
the suspend function when the actual imx interrupt is disabled and the
required clk_ipg is active.

Update the thaw and freeze functions to use the new clock handling since
we share the suspend_noirq function between suspend and hibernate.

When a driver invokes the uart_get_rs485_mode() helper, set the RTS
polarity to active high by default unless the newly introduced
"rs485-rts-active-low" property was specified.

imx contains a line to set the default RTS polarity to active high,
it is now superfluous and hence deleted.

omap-serial historically defaults to active low and supports an
"rs485-rts-active-high" property to inverse the polarity.
Retain that behavior for compatibility.

743f93f822 serial: Make retrieval of rs485 properties platform-agnostic
Commit ef838a81dd ("serial: Add common rs485 device tree parsing
function") consolidated retrieval of rs485 OF properties in a common
helper function but did not #ifdef it to CONFIG_OF.  The function is
therefore included on ACPI platforms as well even though it's not used.

On the other hand ACPI platforms with rs485 do exist (e.g. Siemens
IOT2040) and they may leverage _DSD to store rs485 properties.  Likewise,
UART platform devices instantiated from an MFD should be able to specify
rs485 properties.  In fact, the tty subsystem maintainer had asked for
a "generic" function during review of commit ef838a81dd:

Thus, instead of constraining the helper to OF platforms, make it
platform-agnostic by converting it to device_property_*() functions
and renaming it accordingly.

In imx.c, move the invocation of uart_get_rs485_mode() from
serial_imx_probe_dt() to serial_imx_probe() so that it also gets called
for non-OF devices.

In omap-serial.c, move its invocation further up within
serial_omap_probe_rs485() so that the RTS polarity can be overridden
with the driver-specific "rs485-rts-active-high" property once we
introduce a generic "rs485-rts-active-low" property.

4793f2ebff tty: serial: Remove redundant license text
Now that the SPDX tag is in all tty files, that identifies the license
in a specific and legally-defined manner.  So the extra GPL text wording
can be removed as it is no longer needed at all.

This is done on a quest to remove the 700+ different ways that files in
the kernel describe the GPL license text.  And there's unneeded stuff
like the address (sometimes incorrect) for the FSF which is never
needed.

No copyright headers or other non-license-description text was removed.

It's good to have SPDX identifiers in all files to make it easier to
audit the kernel tree for correct licenses.

Update the drivers/tty files files with the correct SPDX license
identifier based on the license text in the file itself.  The SPDX
identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of
the full boiler plate text.

9ce99a3a92 tty: serial: imx: remove dead code imx_dma_rxint
Since commit 4dec2f119e ("imx-serial: RX DMA startup latency")
the interrupt routine no longer will start rx dma.

imx_dma_rxint no longer needs to be called to try and start dma.
It won't start dma because dma_is_rxing is
already true meaning dma is already started.
