Intel I210 on some Intel Alder Lake platforms can only achieve ~750Mbps
Tx speed via iperf. The RR2DCDELAY shows around 0x2xxx DMA delay, which
will be significantly lower when 1) ASPM is disabled or 2) SoC package
c-state stays above PC3. When the RR2DCDELAY is around 0x1xxx the Tx
speed can reach to ~950Mbps.
According to the I210 datasheet "8.26.1 PCIe Misc. Register - PCIEMISC",
"DMA Idle Indication" doesn't seem to tie to DMA coalesce anymore, so
set it to 1b for "DMA is considered idle when there is no Rx or Tx AND
when there are no TLPs indicating that CPU is active detected on the
PCIe link (such as the host executes CSR or Configuration register read
or write operation)" and performing Tx should also fall under "active
CPU on PCIe link" case.
In addition to that, commit b6e0c419f0 ("igb: Move DMA Coalescing init
code to separate function.") seems to wrongly changed from enabling
E1000_PCIEMISC_LX_DECISION to disabling it, also fix that.

igb_read_phy_reg() will silently return, leaving phy_data untouched, if
hw->ops.read_reg isn't set. Depending on the uninitialized value of
phy_data, this led to the phy status check either succeeding immediately
or looping continuously for 2 seconds before emitting a noisy err-level
timeout. This message went out to the console even though there was no
actual problem.
Instead, first check if there is read_reg function pointer. If not,
proceed without trying to check the phy status register.

On changing the RX ring parameters igb uses a hack to avoid a warning
when calling xdp_rxq_info_reg via igb_setup_rx_resources. It just
clears the struct xdp_rxq_info content.
Instead, change this to unregister if we're already registered. Align
code to the igc code.

As stated in [1], dma_set_mask() with a 64-bit mask never fails if
dev->dma_mask is non-NULL.
So, if it fails, the 32 bits case will also fail for the same reason.
So, if dma_set_mask_and_coherent() succeeds, 'pci_using_dac' is known to be
1.
Simplify code and remove some dead code accordingly.

napi_build_skb() reuses per-cpu NAPI skbuff_head cache in order
to save some cycles on freeing/allocating skbuff_heads on every
new Rx or completed Tx.
igb driver runs Tx completion polling cycle right before the Rx
one and uses napi_consume_skb() to feed the cache with skbuff_heads
of completed entries, so it's never empty and always warm at that
moment. Switch to the napi_build_skb() to relax mm pressure on
heavy Rx.

Recent net core changes caused an issue with few Intel drivers
(reportedly igb), where taking RTNL in RPM resume path results in a
deadlock. See [0] for a bug report. I don't think the core changes
are wrong, but taking RTNL in RPM resume path isn't needed.
The Intel drivers are the only ones doing this. See [1] for a
discussion on the issue. Following patch changes the RPM resume path
to not take RTNL.

Since commit 94dd016ae5 ("bond: pass get_ts_info and SIOC[SG]HWTSTAMP
ioctl to active device") the user could get bond active interface's
PHC index directly. But when there is a failover, the bond active
interface will change, thus the PHC index is also changed. This may
break the user's program if they did not update the PHC timely.
This patch adds a new hwtstamp_config flag HWTSTAMP_FLAG_BONDED_PHC_INDEX.
When the user wants to get the bond active interface's PHC, they need to
add this flag and be aware the PHC index may be changed.
With the new flag. All flag checks in current drivers are removed. Only
the checking in net_hwtstamp_validate() is kept.

In non trivial scenarios, the action id alone is not sufficient to
identify the program causing the warning. Before the previous patch,
the generated stack-trace pointed out at least the involved device
driver.
Let's additionally include the program name and id, and the relevant
device name.
If the user needs additional infos, he can fetch them via a kernel
probe, leveraging the arguments added here.

As Alex suggested, change the driver to return work_done at the
exit of napi_poll, which should be safe to do in this driver
because it is not polling multiple queues in this single napi
context (multiple queues attached to one MSI-X vector). Several

this will not create new problems.

The driver tried to use Linux' native software I2C bus master
(i2c-algo-bits) for exporting the I2C interface that talks to the SFP
cage(s) towards userspace. As-is, however, the physical SCL/SDA pins
were not moving at all, staying at logical 1 all the time.
The main culprit was the I2CPARAMS register where igb was not setting
the I2CBB_EN bit. That meant that all the careful signal bit-banging was
actually not being propagated to the chip pads (I verified this with a
scope).
The bit-banging was not correct either, because I2C is supposed to be an
open-collector bus, and the code was driving both lines via a totem
pole. The code was also trying to do operations which did not make any
sense with the i2c-algo-bits, namely manipulating both SDA and SCL from
igb_set_i2c_data (which is only supposed to set SDA). I'm not sure if
that was meant as an optimization, or was just flat out wrong, but given
that the i2c-algo-bits is set up to work with a totally dumb GPIO-ish
implementation underneath, there's no need for this code to be smart.
The open-drain vs. totem-pole is fixed by the usual trick where the
logical zero is implemented via regular output mode and outputting a
logical 0, and the logical high is implemented via the IO pad configured
as an input (thus floating), and letting the mandatory pull-up resistors
do the rest. Anything else is actually wrong on I2C where all devices
are supposed to have open-drain connection to the bus.
The missing I2CBB_EN is set (along with a safe initial value of the
GPIOs) just before registering this software I2C bus.
The chip datasheet mentions HW-implemented I2C transactions (SFP EEPROM
reads and writes) as well, but I'm not touching these for simplicity.
Tested on a LR-Link LRES2203PF-2SFP (which is an almost-miniPCIe form
factor card, a cable, and a module with two SFP cages). There was one
casualty, an old broken SFP we had laying around, which was used to
solder some thin wires as a DIY I2C breakout. Thanks for your service.
With this patch in place, I can `i2cdump -y 3 0x51 c` and read back data
which make sense. Yay.

Most users of ndo_do_ioctl are ethernet drivers that implement
the MII commands SIOCGMIIPHY/SIOCGMIIREG/SIOCSMIIREG, or hardware
timestamping with SIOCSHWTSTAMP/SIOCGHWTSTAMP.
Separate these from the few drivers that use ndo_do_ioctl to
implement SIOCBOND, SIOCBR and SIOCWANDEV commands.
This is a purely cosmetic change intended to help readers find
their way through the implementation.

In preparation for FORTIFY_SOURCE performing compile-time and run-time
field bounds checking for memcpy(), memmove(), and memset(), avoid
intentionally reading across neighboring array fields.
The memcpy() is copying the entire structure, not just the first array.
Adjust the source argument so the compiler can do appropriate bounds
checking.

Cleans the next descriptor to watch (next_to_watch) when cleaning the
TX ring.
Failure to do so can cause invalid memory accesses. If igb_poll() runs
while the controller is reset this can lead to the driver try to free
a skb that was already freed.
(The crash is harder to reproduce with the igb driver, but the same
potential problem exists as the code is identical to igc)

The Intel drivers all have rcu_read_lock()/rcu_read_unlock() pairs around
XDP program invocations. However, the actual lifetime of the objects
referred by the XDP program invocation is longer, all the way through to
the call to xdp_do_flush(), making the scope of the rcu_read_lock() too
small. This turns out to be harmless because it all happens in a single
NAPI poll cycle (and thus under local_bh_disable()), but it makes the
rcu_read_lock() misleading.
Rather than extend the scope of the rcu_read_lock(), just get rid of it
entirely. With the addition of RCU annotations to the XDP_REDIRECT map
types that take bh execution into account, lockdep even understands this to
be safe, so there's really no reason to keep it around.

errors can occur. The support was only partial. Several errors
where not logged which would confuse the user quite a lot not

When using native XDP with the igb driver, the XDP frame data doesn't point to
the beginning of the packet. It's off by 16 bytes. Everything works as expected
with XDP skb mode.
Actually these 16 bytes are used to store the packet timestamps. Therefore, pull
the timestamp before executing any XDP operations and adjust all other code
accordingly. The igc driver does it like that as well.
Tested with Intel i210 card and AF_XDP sockets.

The igb PTP code was using htons() on a constant to try to
byte swap the value before writing it to a register. This byte
swap has the consequence of triggering sparse conflicts between
the register write which expect cpu ordered input, and the code
which generated a big endian constant. Just override the cast
to make sure code doesn't change but silence the warning.
Can't do a __swab16 in this case because big endian systems
would then write the wrong value.

The igb driver was trying hard to be sparse correct, but somehow
ended up converting a variable into little endian order and then
tries to OR something with it.
A much plainer way of doing things is to leave all variables and
OR operations in CPU (non-endian) mode, and then convert to
little endian only once, which is what this change does.
This probably fixes a bug that might have been seen only on
big endian systems.

The sparse build (C=2) finds some issues with how the driver
dealt with the (very difficult) hardware that in some generations
uses little-endian, and in others uses big endian, for the VLAN
field. The code as written picks __le16 as a type and for some
hardware revisions we override it to __be16 as done in this
patch. This impacted the VF driver as well so fix it there too.
Also change the vlan_tci assignment to override the sparse
warning without changing functionality.

The igb and igc driver both use a trick of creating a local type
pointer on the stack to ease dealing with a receive descriptor in
64 bit chunks for printing. Sparse however was not taken into
account and receive descriptors are always in little endian
order, so just make the unions use __le64 instead of u64.
No functional change.

The sparse checker (C=2) found an assignment where we were mixing
types when trying to convert from data read directly from the
device NVM, to an array in CPU order in-memory, which
unfortunately the driver tries to do in-place.
This is easily solved by using the swap operation instead of an
assignment, and is already proven in other Intel drivers to be
functionally correct and the same code, just without a sparse
warning.
The change is the same in all three drivers.

Add new function which checks MTA_REGISTER if its filled correctly.
If not then writes again to same register.
There is possibility that i210 and i211 could not accept
MTA_REGISTER settings, specially when you add and remove
many of multicast addresses in short time.
Without this patch there is possibility that multicast settings will be
not always set correctly in hardware.

i210 has a total of 24KB of transmit packet buffer. When in Qav mode,
this buffer is divided into four pieces, one for each Tx queue.
Currently, 8KB are given to each of the two SR queues and 4KB are given
to each of the two SP queues.
However, it was noticed that such distribution can make best effort
traffic (which would usually go to the SP queues when Qav is enabled, as
the SR queues would be used by ETF or CBS qdiscs for TSN-aware traffic)
perform poorly. Using iperf3 to measure, one could see the performance
of best effort traffic drop by nearly a third (from 935Mbps to 578Mbps),
with no TSN traffic competing.
This patch redistributes the 24KB to each queue equally: 6KB each. On
tests, there was no notable performance reduction of best effort traffic
performance when there was no TSN traffic competing.

Add a couple of checks to make sure timestamping is on and that the
timestamp value from DMA is valid. This avoids any functional issues
that could come from a misinterpreted time stamp.
One of the functions changed doesn't need a return value added because
there was no value in checking from the calling locations.
While here, fix a couple of reverse christmas tree issues next to
the code being changed.

The include guard "_E1000_HW_H_" is used by two separate header files in
two different drivers (e1000/e1000_hw.h and igb/e1000_hw.h). Using the
same include guard macro in more than one header file may cause
unexpected behavior from the compiler. Fix this by renaming the
duplicate guard in the igb driver.

We want to change the current ndo_xdp_xmit drop semantics because it will
allow us to implement better queue overflow handling. This is working
towards the larger goal of a XDP TX queue-hook. Move XDP_REDIRECT error
path handling from each XDP ethernet driver to devmap code. According to
the new APIs, the driver running the ndo_xdp_xmit pointer, will break tx
loop whenever the hw reports a tx error and it will just return to devmap
caller the number of successfully transmitted frames. It will be devmap
responsibility to free dropped frames.

Igb needs a similar fix as commit 75aab4e10a ("i40e: avoid
premature Rx buffer reuse")
The page recycle code, incorrectly, relied on that a page fragment
could not be freed inside xdp_do_redirect(). This assumption leads to
that page fragments that are used by the stack/XDP redirect can be
reused and overwritten.
To avoid this, store the page count prior invoking xdp_do_redirect().
Longer explanation:
Intel NICs have a recycle mechanism. The main idea is that a page is
split into two parts. One part is owned by the driver, one part might
be owned by someone else, such as the stack.

This means that buffer *cannot* be flipped/reused, because the skb is
still using it.
The problem arises when xdp_do_redirect() actually frees the
segment. Then we get:
page count == USHRT_MAX - 1
rx_buffer->pagecnt_bias == USHRT_MAX - 2
From a recycle perspective, the buffer can be flipped and reused,
which means that the skb data area is passed to the Rx HW ring!
To work around this, the page count is stored prior calling
xdp_do_redirect().

As explained in commit 29d98f54a4 ("net: enetc: allow hardware
timestamping on TX queues with tc-etf enabled"), hardware TX
timestamping requires an skb with skb->tstamp = 0. When a packet is sent
with SO_TXTIME, the skb->skb_mstamp_ns corrupts the value of skb->tstamp,
so the drivers need to explicitly reset skb->tstamp to zero after
consuming the TX time.
Create a helper named skb_txtime_consumed() which does just that. All
drivers which offload TC_SETUP_QDISC_ETF should implement it, and it
would make it easier to assess during review whether they do the right
thing in order to be compatible with hardware timestamping or not.

The Intel I211 Ethernet Controller supports 2 Receive Side Scaling (RSS)
queues. It should not be excluded from having this feature enabled.
Via commit c883de9fd7 ("igb: rename igb define to be more generic")
E1000_MRQC_ENABLE_RSS_4Q was renamed to E1000_MRQC_ENABLE_RSS_MQ to
indicate that this is a generic bit flag to enable queues and not
a flag that is specific to devices that support 4 queues
The bit flag enables 2, 4 or 8 queues appropriately depending on the part.
Tested with a multicore CPU and frames were then distributed as expected.
This issue appears to have been introduced because of confusion caused
by the prior name.

Using skb_csum_is_sctp is a easier way to validate it's a SCTP
CRC checksum offload packet, and there is no need to parse the
packet to check its proto field, especially when it's a UDP or
GRE encapped packet.
So this patch also makes igb support SCTP CRC checksum offload
for UDP and GRE encapped packets.

xdp_return_frame_bulk() needs to pass a xdp_buff
to __xdp_return().
strlcpy got converted to strscpy but here it makes no
functional difference, so just keep the right code.

Since we share the transmit queue with the network stack,
it is possible that we run into a transmit queue timeout.
This will reset the queue.
This happens under high load when XDP is using the
transmit queue pretty much exclusively.
netdev_start_xmit() sets the trans_start variable of the
transmit queue to jiffies which is later utilized by dev_watchdog(),
so to avoid timeout, let stack know that XDP xmit happened by
bumping the trans_start within XDP Tx routines to jiffies.

Add napi_id to the xdp_rxq_info structure, and make sure the XDP
socket pick up the napi_id in the Rx path. The napi_id is used to find
the corresponding NAPI structure for socket busy polling.

in_interrupt() is ill defined and does not provide what the name
suggests. The usage especially in driver code is deprecated and a tree wide
effort to clean up and consolidate the (ab)usage of in_interrupt() and
related checks is happening.
In this case the checks cover only parts of the contexts in which these
functions cannot be called. They fail to detect preemption or interrupt
disabled invocations.
As the functions which are invoked from the various places contain already
a broad variety of checks (always enabled or debug option dependent) cover
all invalid conditions already, there is no point in having inconsistent
warnings in those drivers.
Just remove them.

Add XDP support to the IGB driver.
The implementation follows the IXGBE XDP implementation
closely and I used the following patches as basis:
1. commit 9247080816 ("ixgbe: add XDP support for pass and drop actions")
2. commit 33fdc82f08 ("ixgbe: add support for XDP_TX action")
3. commit ed93a39871 ("ixgbe: tweak page counting for XDP_REDIRECT")
Due to the hardware constraints of the devices using the
IGB driver we must share the TX queues with XDP which
means locking the TX queue for XDP.
I ran tests on an older device to get better numbers.
Test machine:
Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU C2338 @ 1.74GHz (2 Cores)
2x Intel I211
Routing Original Driver Network Stack: 382 Kpps
Routing XDP Redirect (xdp_fwd_kern): 1.48 Mpps
XDP Drop: 1.48 Mpps
Using XDP we can achieve line rate forwarding even on
an older Intel Atom CPU.

This takes care of all of the trivial W=1 fixes in the Intel
Ethernet drivers, which allows developers and maintainers to
build more of the networking tree with more complete warning
checks.
There are three classes of kdoc warnings fixed:
- cannot understand function prototype: 'x'
- Excess function parameter 'x' description in 'y'
- Function parameter or member 'x' not described in 'y'
All of the changes were trivial comment updates on
function headers.
Inspired by Lee Jones' series of wireless work to do the same.
Compile tested only, and passes simple test of
$ git ls-files *.[ch] | egrep drivers/net/ethernet/intel | \

We got slightly different patches removing a double word
in a comment in net/ipv4/raw.c - picked the version from net.
Simple conflict in drivers/net/ethernet/ibm/ibmvnic.c. Use cached
values instead of VNIC login response buffer (following what
commit 507ebe6444 ("ibmvnic: Fix use-after-free of VNIC login
response buffer") did).

As with other networking drivers, remove the unnecessary driver version
from the Intel drivers. The ethtool driver information and module version
will then report the kernel version instead.
For ixgbe, i40e and ice drivers, the driver passes the driver version to
the firmware to confirm that we are up and running. So we now pass the
value of UTS_RELEASE to the firmware. This adminq call is required per
the HAS document. The Device then sends an indication to the BMC that the
PF driver is present. This is done using Host NC Driver Status Indication
in NC-SI Get Link command or via the Host Network Controller Driver Status
Change AEN.
What the BMC may do with this information is implementation-dependent, but
this is a standard NC-SI 1.1 command we honor per the HAS.

igb device gets runtime suspended when there's no link partner. We can't
get correct speed under that state:
$ cat /sys/class/net/enp3s0/speed
1000
In addition to that, an error can also be spotted in dmesg:
[ 385.991957] igb 0000:03:00.0 enp3s0: PCIe link lost
Since device can only be runtime suspended when there's no link partner,
we can skip reading register and let the following logic set speed and
duplex with correct status.
The more generic approach will be wrap get_link_ksettings() with begin()
and complete() callbacks. However, for this particular issue, begin()
calls igb_runtime_resume() , which tries to rtnl_lock() while the lock
is already hold by upper ethtool layer.
So let's take this approach until the igb_runtime_resume() no longer
needs to hold rtnl_lock.

Set ethtool_ops->supported_coalesce_params to let
the core reject unsupported coalescing parameters.
This driver was rejecting almost all unsupported
parameters already, it was only missing a check
for tx_max_coalesced_frames_irq.
As a side effect of these changes the error code for
unsupported params changes from ENOTSUPP to EOPNOTSUPP.

The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language
extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare
variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2],
introduced in C99:
struct foo {
int stuff;
struct boo array[];
};
By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning
in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which
will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being
inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on.
Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by
this change:
"Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator
may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of
zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1]
This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle.

Changing the link mode should also be done for 100BaseFX SGMII modules,
otherwise they just don't work when the default link mode in CTRL_EXT
coming from the EEPROM is SERDES.
Additionally 100Base-LX SGMII SFP modules are also supported now, which
was not the case before.
Tested with an i210 using Flexoptix S.1303.2M.G 100FX and
S.1303.10.G 100LX SGMII SFP modules.

If Rx flow control has been enabled (via autoneg or forced), packets
should not be dropped due to Rx descriptor ring exhaustion. Instead
pause frames should be used to apply back pressure. This only applies
if VFs are not in use.
Move SRRCTL setup to its own function for easy reuse and only set drop
enable bit if Rx flow control is not enabled.
Since v1: always enable dropping of packets if VFs in use.

User space may request time stamps on rising edges, falling edges, or
both. However, the particular mode may or may not be supported in the
hardware or in the driver. This patch adds a "strict" flag that tells
drivers to ensure that the requested mode will be honored.

Fix the igb PTP support to explicitly reject any future flags that
get added to the external timestamp request ioctl.
In order to maintain currently functioning code, this patch accepts all
three current flags. This is because the PTP_RISING_EDGE and
PTP_FALLING_EDGE flags have unclear semantics and each driver seems to
have interpreted them slightly differently.
This HW always time stamps both edges:

Commit 823eb2a3c4 ("PTP: add support for one-shot output") introduced
a new flag for the PTP periodic output request ioctl. This flag is not
currently supported by any driver.
Fix all drivers which implement the periodic output request ioctl to
explicitly reject any request with flags they do not understand. This
ensures that the driver does not accidentally misinterpret the
PTP_PEROUT_ONE_SHOT flag, or any new flag introduced in the future.
This is important for forward compatibility: if a new flag is
introduced, the driver should reject requests to enable the flag until
the driver has actually been modified to support the flag in question.

When implementing launch time support in the igb and igc drivers, the
skb->tstamp value is assumed to be a s64, but it's declared as a ktime_t
value.
Although ktime_t is typedef'd to s64 it wasn't always, and the kernel
provides accessors for ktime_t values.
Use the ktime_to_timespec64 and ktime_set accessors instead of directly
assuming that the variable is always an s64.
This improves portability if the code is ever moved to another kernel
version, or if the definition of ktime_t ever changes again in the
future.

Changing a network device MTU can be a fairly frequent operation, and
failure to change the MTU is reflected to user-space properly, both by
an appropriate message as well as by looking at whether the device's MTU
matches the configuration.
Demote the prints to debug prints by using netdev_dbg(), making all
Intel wired LAN drivers consistent, since they used a mixture of PCI
device and network device prints before.

At least on the i350 there is an annoying behavior that is maybe also
present on 82580 devices, but was probably not noticed yet as MAS is not
widely used.
If no cable is connected on both fiber/copper ports the media auto sense
code will constantly swap between them as part of the watchdog task and
produce many unnecessary kernel log messages.
The swap code responsible for this behavior (switching to fiber) should
not be executed if the current media type is copper and there is no signal
detected on the fiber port. In this case we can safely wait until the
AUTOSENSE_EN bit is cleared.

This patch enables the hardware feature "Media Auto Sense" also on the
i350. It works in the same way as on the 82850 devices. Hardware designs
using dual PHYs (fiber/copper) can enable this feature by setting the MAS
enable bits in the NVM_COMPAT register (0x03) in the EEPROM.

This patch updates flow_block_cb_setup_simple() to use the flow block API.
Several drivers are also adjusted to use it.
This patch introduces the per-driver list of flow blocks to account for
blocks that are already in use.

Most drivers do the same thing to set up the flow block callbacks, this
patch adds a helper function to do this.
This preparation patch reduces the number of changes to adapt the
existing drivers to use the flow block callback API.
This new helper function takes a flow block list per-driver, which is
set to NULL until this driver list is used.
This patch also introduces the flow_block_command and
flow_block_binder_type enumerations, which are renamed to use
FLOW_BLOCK_* in follow up patches.
There are three definitions (aliases) in order to reduce the number of
updates in this patch, which go away once drivers are fully adapted to
use this flow block API.

Alex fixes the ixgbevf driver to use the current cached link state,
rather than trying to re-check the value from the PF.
Harshitha adds support for MACVLAN offloads in i40e by using channels as
MACVLAN interfaces.
Detlev Casanova updates the e1000e driver to use delayed work instead of
timers to run the watchdog.
Vitaly fixes an issue in e1000e, where when disconnecting and
reconnecting the physical cable connection, the NIC enters a DMoff
state. This state causes a mismatch in link and duplexing, so check the
PCIm function state and perform a PHY reset when in this state to
resolve the issue.

This patch adds the RR2DCDELAY register to the ethtool registers dump.
RR2DCDELAY exists on I210 and I211 Intel Gigabit Ethernet chips and it stands
for "Read Request To Data Completion Delay". Here is how this register is
described in the I210 datasheet:
"This field captures the maximum PCIe split time in 16 ns units, which is the
maximum delay between the read request to the first data completion. This is
giving an estimation of the PCIe round trip time."
In other words, whenever I210 reads from the host memory (e.g., fetches a
descriptor from the ring), the chip measures every PCI DMA read transaction and
captures the maximum value. So it ends up containing the longest DMA
transaction time.
This register is very useful for troubleshooting and research purposes. If you
are dealing with time-sensitive networks, this register can help you get
an idea of your "I210-to-ring" latency. This helps answering questions like
"should I have PCIe ASPM enabled?" or "should I enable deep C-states?" on
my system.
It is safe to read this register at any point, reading it has no effect on
the I210 chip functionality.

If a packet which is utilizing the launchtime feature (via SO_TXTIME socket
option) also requests the hardware transmit timestamp, the hardware
timestamp is not delivered to the userspace. This is because the value in
skb->tstamp is mistaken as the software timestamp.
Applications, like ptp4l, request a hardware timestamp by setting the
SOF_TIMESTAMPING_TX_HARDWARE socket option. Whenever a new timestamp is
detected by the driver (this work is done in igb_ptp_tx_work() which calls
igb_ptp_tx_hwtstamps() in igb_ptp.c[1]), it will queue the timestamp in the
ERR_QUEUE for the userspace to read. When the userspace is ready, it will
issue a recvmsg() call to collect this timestamp. The problem is in this
recvmsg() call. If the skb->tstamp is not cleared out, it will be
interpreted as a software timestamp and the hardware tx timestamp will not
be successfully sent to the userspace. Look at skb_is_swtx_tstamp() and the
callee function __sock_recv_timestamp() in net/socket.c for more details.

Failed in read the HW register is very serious for igb/igc driver,
as its hw_addr will be set to NULL and cause the adapter be seen as
"REMOVED".
We saw the error only a few times in the MTBF test for suspend/resume,
but can hardly get any useful info to debug.
Adding WARN() so that we can get the necessary information about
where and how it happens, and use it for root causing and fixing
this "PCIe link lost issue"
This affects igb, igc.

it, so there is no reason to call it from driver code. This patch was

relying on mmiowb() to order MMIO writes between CPUs using lock-free
synchronisation. If you've ended up bisecting to this commit, you can
reintroduce the mmiowb() calls using wmb() instead, which should restore
the old behaviour on all architectures other than some esoteric ia64
systems.

There are two reasons for this.
First, the xmit_more flag conceptually doesn't fit into the skb, as
xmit_more is not a property related to the skb.
Its only a hint to the driver that the stack is about to transmit another
packet immediately.
Second, it was only done this way to not have to pass another argument
to ndo_start_xmit().
We can place xmit_more in the softnet data, next to the device recursion.
The recursion counter is already written to on each transmit. The "more"
indicator is placed right next to it.
Drivers can use the netdev_xmit_more() helper instead of skb->xmit_more
to check the "more packets coming" hint.
skb->xmit_more is retained (but always 0) to not cause build breakage.
This change takes care of the simple s/skb->xmit_more/netdev_xmit_more()/
conversions. Remaining drivers are converted in the next patches.

The runtime_suspend device callbacks are not supposed to save
configuration state or change the power state. Commit fb29f76cc566
("igb: Fix an issue that PME is not enabled during runtime suspend")
changed the driver to not save configuration state during runtime
suspend, however the driver callback still put the device into a
low-power state. This causes a warning in the pci pm core and results in
pci_pm_runtime_suspend not calling pci_save_state or pci_finish_runtime_suspend.
Fix this by not changing the power state either, leaving that to pci pm
core, and make the same change for suspend callback as well.
Also move a couple of defines into the appropriate header file instead
of inline in the .c file.

igb sets different WoL settings in system suspend callback and runtime
suspend callback.
The suspend direct complete optimization leaves igb in runtime suspended
state with wrong WoL setting during system suspend.
To fix this, we need to disable suspend direct complete optimization to
let igb always use suspend callback to set correct WoL during system
suspend.

One of the more common cases of allocation size calculations is finding
the size of a structure that has a zero-sized array at the end, along
with memory for some number of elements for that array. For example:

instance = alloc(size, GFP_KERNEL);
Instead of leaving these open-coded and prone to type mistakes, we can
now use the new struct_size() helper:

This patch wraps the dissector key and mask - that flower uses to
represent the matching side - around the flow_match structure.
To avoid a follow up patch that would edit the same LoCs in the drivers,
this patch also wraps this new flow match structure around the flow rule
object. This new structure will also contain the flow actions in follow
up patches.
This introduces two new interfaces:
bool flow_rule_match_key(rule, dissector_id)
that returns true if a given matching key is set on, and:
flow_rule_match_XYZ(rule, &match);
To fetch the matching side XYZ into the match container structure, to
retrieve the key and the mask with one single call.

Drivers may not be able to support certain FDB entries, and an error
code is insufficient to give clear hints as to the reasons of rejection.
In order to make it possible to communicate the rejection reason, extend
ndo_fdb_add() with an extack argument. Adapt the existing
implementations of ndo_fdb_add() to take the parameter (and ignore it).
Pass the extack parameter when invoking ndo_fdb_add() from rtnl_fdb_add().

I210 ethernet card doesn't wakeup when a cable gets plugged. It's
because its PME is not set.
Since commit 42eca23021 ("PCI: Don't touch card regs after runtime
suspend D3"), if the PCI state is saved, pci_pm_runtime_suspend() stops
calling pci_finish_runtime_suspend(), which enables the PCI PME.
To fix the issue, let's not to save PCI states when it's runtime
suspend, to let the PCI subsystem enables PME.

Section 4.5.9 of the datasheet says that the total size of all packet
buffers combined (TxPB 0 + 1 + 2 + 3 + RxPB + BMC2OS + OS2BMC) must not
exceed 60KB. Today we are configuring a total of 62KB, so reduce the
RxPB from 32KB to 30KB in order to respect that.
The choice of changing RxPBSIZE here is mainly because it seems more
correct to give more priority to the transmit packet buffers over the
receiver ones when running in Qav mode. Also, the BMC2OS and OS2BMC
sizes are already too short.

The Watchdog workqueue in igb driver is scheduled every 2s for each
network interface. That includes updating a statistics protected by
spinlock. Function igb_update_stats in this case will be protected
against preemption. According to number of a statistics registers
(cca 60), processing this function might cause additional cpu load
on CPU0.
In case of statistics spinlock may be replaced with mutex, which
reduce latency on CPU0.

While reviewing code, I noticed that Eric Dumazet recommends that
drivers check the return code of napi_complete_done, and use that
to decide to enable interrupts or not when exiting poll. One of
the Intel drivers was already fixed (ixgbe).
Upon looking at the Intel drivers as a whole, we are handling our
polling and NAPI exit in a few different ways based on whether we
have multiqueue and whether we have Tx cleanup included. Several
drivers had the bug of exiting NAPI with return 0, which appears
to mess up the accounting in the stack.
Consolidate all the NAPI routines to do best known way of exiting
and to just mostly look like each other.
1) check return code of napi_complete_done to control interrupt enable
2) return the actual amount of work done.
3) return budget immediately if need NAPI poll again
Tested the changes on e1000e with a high interrupt rate set, and
it shows about an 8% reduction in the CPU utilization when busy
polling because we aren't re-enabling interrupts when we're about
to be polled.
