This is the exact same thing as the 'alloc_obj()' version, only much
smaller because there are a lot fewer users of the *alloc_flex()
interface.
As with alloc_obj() version, this was done entirely with mindless brute
force, using the same script, except using 'flex' in the pattern rather
than 'objs*'.

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

The lookup table forces the use of the "pinctrl-bcm2835" GPIO chip
provider and essentially assumes that there is going to be such a
provider, and if not, we will fail to set-up the SPI device.
While this is true on Raspberry Pi based systems (2835/36/37, 2711,
2712), this is not true on 7712/77122 Broadcom STB systems which use the
SPI driver, but not the GPIO driver.
There used to be an early check:

which would accomplish that nicely, bring something similar back by
checking for the compatible strings matched by the pinctrl-bcm2835.c
driver, if there is no Device Tree node matching those compatible
strings, then we won't find any GPIO provider registered by the
"pinctrl-bcm2835" driver.

After commit 0edb555a65 ("platform: Make platform_driver::remove()
return void") .remove() is (again) the right callback to implement for
platform drivers.
Convert all platform drivers below drivers/spi to use .remove(), with
the eventual goal to drop struct platform_driver::remove_new(). As
.remove() and .remove_new() have the same prototypes, conversion is done
by just changing the structure member name in the driver initializer.
The change for the spi-npcm-fiu stands out in the diffstat because the
inconsistent formatting style of the platform_driver initializer is
fixed to match the other struct initializer in the file.

The core SPI code will handle splitting transfers if needed as long
as ctlr->max_transfer_size is implemented. It does this in
__spi_pump_transfer_message() immediately before calling
ctlr->prepare_message. So effectively, this change does not
alter the behavior of the driver.
Also, several peripheral drivers make use of spi_max_transfer_size(),
so this should improve compatibility with those drivers.

Since commit 7ef9651e97 ("clk: Provide new devm_clk helpers for prepared
and enabled clocks"), devm_clk_get() and clk_prepare_enable() can now be
replaced by devm_clk_get_enabled() when driver enables (and possibly
prepares) the clocks for the whole lifetime of the device. Moreover, it is
no longer necessary to unprepare and disable the clocks explicitly.

After introducing devm_spi_alloc_host/spi_alloc_host(), the legacy
named function devm_spi_alloc_master/spi_alloc_master() can be replaced.
And also change other legacy name master/slave to modern name host/target
or controller.
The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate
of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus.
As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they
"temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h
and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include
files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and
replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to
explicitly include the correct includes.

The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes
many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by
returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored
and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a
quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this
quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns
void.
Convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove callback to
the void returning variant.
Now that bcm2835_spi_remove returns no error code any more,
bcm2835_spi_shutdown() does the same thing as bcm2835_spi_remove(). So
drop the shutdown function and use bcm2835_spi_remove() as .shutdown
callback.

Supporting multi-cs in spi drivers would require the chip_select & cs_gpiod
members of struct spi_device to be an array. But changing the type of these
members to array would break the spi driver functionality. To make the
transition smoother introduced four new APIs to get/set the
spi->chip_select & spi->cs_gpiod and replaced all spi->chip_select and
spi->cs_gpiod references with get or set API calls.
While adding multi-cs support in further patches the chip_select & cs_gpiod
members of the spi_device structure would be converted to arrays & the
"idx" parameter of the APIs would be used as array index i.e.,
spi->chip_select[idx] & spi->cs_gpiod[idx] respectively.

Jander who went through the fast path and really eliminated overheads,
meaning that we are seeing a huge reduction in the time spent between
transfers for single threaded clients.
Benchmarking has been coming out at about a halving of overhead which
is clearly visible in system level usage that stresses SPI like some
CAN and IIO applications, especially with small transfers. Thanks to
David for taking the time to drill down into this and push the work
upstream.

In case a IRQ based transfer times out the bcm2835_spi_handle_err()
function is called. Since commit 1513ceee70 ("spi: bcm2835: Drop
dma_pending flag") the TX and RX DMA transfers are unconditionally
canceled, leading to NULL pointer derefs if ctlr->dma_tx or
ctlr->dma_rx are not set.
Fix the NULL pointer deref by checking that ctlr->dma_tx and
ctlr->dma_rx are valid pointers before accessing them.

Commit 571e31fa60 ("spi: bcm2835: Cache CS register value for
->prepare_message()") limited the number of slaves to 3 at compile-time.
The limitation was necessitated by a statically-sized array prepare_cs[]
in the driver private data which contains a per-slave register value.
The commit sought to enforce the limitation at run-time by setting the
controller's num_chipselect to 3: Slaves with a higher chipselect are
rejected by spi_add_device().
However the commit neglected that num_chipselect only limits the number
of *native* chipselects. If GPIO chipselects are specified in the
device tree for more than 3 slaves, num_chipselect is silently raised by
of_spi_get_gpio_numbers() and the result are out-of-bounds accesses to
the statically-sized array prepare_cs[].
As a bandaid fix which is backportable to stable, raise the number of
allowed slaves to 24 (which "ought to be enough for anybody"), enforce
the limitation on slave ->setup and revert num_chipselect to 3 (which is
the number of native chipselects supported by the controller).
An upcoming for-next commit will allow an arbitrary number of slaves.

The IRQ handler only needs the struct spi_controller for the sake of
the completion at the end of a transfer. Passing the struct bcm2835_spi
directly as the IRQ data allows that level of indirection to be pushed
into the completion path for the reverse lookup, and avoided entirely
in all other cases.
This saves one explicit load in the critical path, plus (for a GCC 8.3
build) two registers worth of stack frame overhead.

bcm2711, Rasberry Pi 4's SoC, shares one interrupt for multiple
instances of the bcm2835 SPI controller. So this enables shared
interrupt support for them.
The early bail out in the interrupt routine avoids messing with buffers
of transfers being done by other means. Otherwise, the driver can handle
receiving interrupts asserted by other controllers during an IRQ based
transfer.

On unbind of the BCM2835 SPI driver, the SPI controller is disabled
first and the DMA channels are terminated and torn down afterwards.
This seems backwards: In the theoretical case that DMA is active,
it might try to fill the SPI FIFOs even after the controller has
been disabled.
Reverse the order, thereby mirroring what's done on ->probe().

The BCM2835 SPI driver uses devm_spi_register_controller() on bind.
As a consequence, on unbind, __device_release_driver() first invokes
bcm2835_spi_remove() before unregistering the SPI controller via
devres_release_all().
This order is incorrect: bcm2835_spi_remove() tears down the DMA
channels and turns off the SPI controller, including its interrupts
and clock. The SPI controller is thus no longer usable.
When the SPI controller is subsequently unregistered, it unbinds all
its slave devices. If their drivers need to access the SPI bus,
e.g. to quiesce their interrupts, unbinding will fail.
As a rule, devm_spi_register_controller() must not be used if the
->remove() hook performs teardown steps which shall be performed
after unbinding of slaves.
Fix by using the non-devm variant spi_register_controller(). Note that
the struct spi_controller as well as the driver-private data are not
freed until after bcm2835_spi_remove() has finished, so accessing them
is safe.
